Goodies full of surprises #mamassecret #hiddennutrition #whatshedoesntknowwillhelpher

Evie has never been a picky eater. Lately though it's a battle to get her to eat. Things she couldn't get enough of ( avocados, bananas, peas.... ) she now blows raspberries at. It's been very frustrating. I can't be the only mom to have gone through this I have now made it my mission to get her to eat her veggies without her knowing it. I have come up with some "treats" to get her to eat. ;) These tasty nummies include chicken nuggets, melts and popsicles. Sounds like normal food, huh? Well they are but with hidden nutrition. Below are my add ins in case anyone wants to know. If you have any surprise goodies you make I'd love to know so please share! CHICKEN NUGGETS
Ground organic chicken
Cage free eggs
Breadcrumbs ( thinking of trying oats next time)
A veggie purée of spinach and kale
Seasons to taste
Cook into mini burger size. Freeze. MELTS
1. Purée of fruit and organic yogurt
2. Purée of fruit and veggie of choice Make un-chocking hazard size and freeze. POPSICLE
1. Purée veggies and mix with organic yogurt. 2. Purée veggies and fruit of choice. Freeze into molds

Let me know if you try these and what changes you make.

The cat's meow

My favorite time of day, late evening. The house is quiet but for the singing crickets coming from Eve's sound machine. This time of night is her last feeding and as I hold her bottle because the sweet thing is just too groggy to know which end goes where, I pray. This list goes anywhere from "lord give me strength to make it through another day without falling asleep while walking" to "thank you Jesus for so and so finally understanding how to read silent e words". This list is some days long and some days short. I enjoy this time so much knowing its me, my Savior and the little miracle He has given to me. It's our time. Our time to be still. Ok. So I'm still working on the still part. Sometimes I talk too much, even in my own head. This time of stillness is so hard to come by and easily dismissed. Many times I plague it with tasks I can do one handed: emails, texts, ... blogging (eh, hem). All seem necessary in order to keep my sanity, my life organized, my relationships. Then there are nights when I look down at the perfectly serene face and know. Know the "needs" to stay focused on are merely distractions from the big need. My need/want to be that person God wants me to be whole- heartedly. And at this time, it's to be present with Him. To be still with an open heart and unplugged ears. So I put away the achievable one handed tasks and be. As eve sings herself into a slumber, I pray. I pray for many things, not excluding praying the cat doesn't decide to make an appearance making herself known through vocals that will now wake the sleeping child so I won't be able to sleep resulting in a high fog the next day. Yes, I pray this. Trivial, perhaps. But "making my requests known to Him" brings peace.

One Year Old ~ April 11, 2012 ~ All because two people fell in love

"He is faithful, He keeps his promises." Deut. 7:9

One year, approximately 10 pounds, 10 inches later Eve is a whole year old!

Starting to Walk: 3-15-12
She's still pretty wobbly but is increasingly getting braver.

First trip to Washington, DC 3/27/12
Easily consoled by rubbing her head.
Green food distain: by looks only. Of she doesn't see that it's green then she's good.
First taste of dairy: Fro-yo from Menchies. (cake batter flavor)

Her first birthday party was a success! It was rainbow themed and she seemed to really love playing with all her friends. She did not however want anything to do with her smash cake. She was upset that her hands were all sticky and she kept spitting out the cake while later that night she couldn't get enough of her carrots and didn't care that they were all over her face and hands. I love that she doesn't care for sweets.

This past year has flown by and I tear thinking of all her accomplishments and growth she has done. There have been long nights, short days, diaper adventures, and just trying to get the hang of parent and child. The adaptations we have made to our lives have made us better people. Eve has made us better people. The constant need for patience, endurance and never ending love is only a small part of how our lives has been filled. Our (speaking for Douglas as well) cup overfloweth indeed! I am so grateful we are surrounded by the family and friends in our lives.

Continue to pray for Eve as she continues to grow each day.
*May she never cease to feel the love we have for her.
*May she continue to be the strong girl she is trying to be.
*May she always know right from wrong.
*May she have a humble heart and tender to those around her.

My constant prayer for MissE:
" But grow in the grace and knowledge of out Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen" 2 Peter 3:18

Washington, D. C. Family Vacation

This is our third family vacation since becoming a family of three and each time we've gotten braver and gone farther. Our first was a road trip to Atlanta, Georgia. Then a plane ride to Boone, N. C. where we drove through snowy weather and icy roads. Now, another road trip. This time much further than the first that included an over night stop.

Image

Once we arrived set out to get in as much as we could with a baby. Day one was gorgeous out so we hopped on the Metro and headed to the National Zoo. We loved seeing all the animals. It was quite a treck around the place with all the up and downs but seeing the pandas and seeing/hearing the lion roar made it totally worth it! We then decided to brave it past Evie's bedtime and head to Georgetown. We enjoyed so yummy cupcakes from DC Cupcakes!!!

Day two: to the Mall and beyond
We went to the National Museum of Natural History, National Museum of American History, the Lincoln Memorial, the World War II Memorial, Korean Memorial. Yeah, that's it and boy was that plenty! We are exhausted from all the walking and so proud of how good Evie did.

Day Three: wrap it up
Today was the day to do whatever else we wanted to do and hadn't gotten to yet. This included going to Jefferson Memorial and the White House. It was very cold today and all I wanted was to stay in with a cup of hot coffee. So, we settled for The Corner Bakery instead and enjoyed some lunch and relaxed. After so much walking yesterday our feet were still hurting.

Dinner: Haad Thai ( close to our hotel)

Day Four: farewell Today was the Centennial Cherry Blossom Festival. So we walked around the Tidal Basin and the Mall area where they had tents of stuff around. The neatest part was seeing all the kites being flown by everyone surrounding the Washington Monument. "how do the strings not get tangled?". We headed back home around 3:00pm. Of course with the festival it took forever to get out but we eventually did.

Tips:

* travel when it's nap time. Arrive with a happy baby! * eat when baby does, cuts down on stop time
* stop and let baby burn some energy off before driving another 4 hours.

Traveling with a baby can be exhausting and challenging. Some things I've learned is to just make sure you have plenty of diapers (we became pros at chaning her in the stroller), plenty of food (grabbing the free breakfast foods for her made it cheaper) and let her walk around whenever possible to help burn off the energy. Eve loves to people watch so having the backpack carrier allowed her to observe and be entertained. We were able to do so much. Even though we got many stares from people wondering why we would even think to bring a stroller on the Metro during rush hours it was the best time! Loved this vacation so much and even though Eve may not remember going or any details, we made an experience with each other. One I WILL remember and share with her one day flipping through the photos.

11 months 03-11-12

My sweet Evie: it's been a rough month for her. She spent the first half with a cold. Including some nasty boogers that she wouldn't let us get out and nasal spray. Yeah, not fun to have to hold her down. If she only knew it was to make her feel better..... The positive side? I am have enjoyed  A LOT of snuggle time. She is always wanting to move and go, never sitting still long enough for me to just hold her. But with her not feeling good she would just sit and let me rock her. LOVED her falling asleep in my arms.
The other hardship is her teeth. Are they supposed to be coming in so fast? I thought the poor darling was supposed to get a break in between the torment. But, again... more snuggle time! ;) I know it's horrible to "take advantage" of her sadness but I like to think of the positive sides of things.

She has started to get picky about her foods. She doesn't like eating eggs or what seems like anything green anymore. Not even avocados  Huh???

She gives high fives, says more (signing), plays peek a boo, loves to dance (bounce up and down) to music, loves playing chase.

Her laugh is so deep down from the belly. Such joy!

"Yesterday you were asleep in my arms. Today you are growing off the charts.
I'm so proud of you!"

This one is so blurry ... She's on the move!

My little chomper

I always knew Eve was moving too fast. Take a look at the time scale chart. By 10 months (which she turned yesterday) she should just be getting her upper central incisor teeth. Well as of today, she officially has all upper and lower central and lateral incisors. That's right, she got her 8th tooth!!! Slow down, Evie. What's the big hurry?

TeethAverage "eruption" time (in months after birth)

10 months - 02-11-12

Happy 10 months, baby Evie! 7th tooth discovered: 01-21-12 bottom left next to the front. Up to 5 steps! I know it's not much but it's baby steps and I am excited for her. Although I think it's too much too fast. She definitely needs to slow down. She is doing great using other things to get around the room and loves to push anything she can. Her sweet noises of jibberish are becoming more and more clear to a meaning. Many sound as if they resemble commonly used words such as Dada, Mama, Dingo, more, etc. But they are really her own interpretation of them. She's getting there. Eve is doing great learning to feed herself. She has been enjoying eggs for breakfast and has even tried some spinach noodles topped with sauce with which she LOVED! She slurped them right up with no problem. Signing: She is putting out her arms to say "more". But she is still being very stubborn about trying to do anything. She would much rather make her noises to try and get what she wants. =]

Continuing to pray for health, to continue to grow strong and for her to know she is loved SO much! Eve, you continue to enthrall me. The joy you bring to my heart in inexplicable! Estimated Height: 29 inches

9 Months Old: 01-11-12

A new year, a new month past. Eve is growing so much in little ways. Its the subtleties that are making such huge impacts though. Such as her sounds. Although they are still completely unintelligible I am starting to understand what she means by her sounds. I know when she does the "mmmhh" while eating it means "more". Or when she says "du" she is meaning "Dingo". Its all gibberish but progress as well. Still working on "mama". ;) But making good progress. She's said it a few times but not consistently.

She is also making progress with the "more, please" signs while eating. Every now and then she will stretch out her hands and make a coming together motion as if to do the "more" sign. She will do it maybe once per feeding, but its getting somewhere and she is not resisting me showing her how to do them as much either! YAY!

Another subtle but makes a huge impact is her self confidence. When she stands to play, lately she has been gaining more confidence in herself allowing herself to pull both hands away from what she is holding onto. She is still leaning her body against the object, which I think is kinda smart on her part. Tricky girl!!

Baby Steps: She has been letting go and doing "Trust Falls" into my arms also which is so awesome! And lately she will even take one to two steps towards me after letting go of her push toy.

Eve is already showing that she is quite the problem solver whether is be with actual puzzles or other "games" we make up for her to figure out how to do things. Such as opening doors of get things out, turning on or off light switches, or trying to play hide and seek (LOVES THIS GAME)!

This past month she has really started to PLAY! And I mean, really play. She will actually go to her toys and sit there and try to figure out what the do with them and then do it again and again. Then move to another and another. She just loves going to her toy box to get them out and making a huge mess all over! =] I am teaching her how to clean up at the end of the night ;) Never too young, I say. I figure she will catch on eventually.

She is still a little woodchuck. chew, chew, chew. ON EVERYTHING but especially wood items. Is this normal? Her next favorite thing to chew is hard objects. The harder the better. Anything chewy she tosses away. "Forget the teething rings, give me a stick!" My child.

Her first Christmas was so joyful! I know she really didn't understand what was really happening and what all the gifts were for but I do know she felt loved. I could see it in her face, her smile, her laugh. She was happy. Being able to have these moments with her was so precious. We got her a drum, well, because she is a "drum"mond. Ha ha ha.... and she loves it! She will bang on that thing and laugh, and laugh!
Guilty Admission: I did cry when I wrote her first gift tag "from: Dad and Mom". I LOVE that we finally get to write that on presents to our own precious gift.

Freezin' for a Reason!

This coming Saturday I will be plunging into VERY COLD water to help raise money for the Special Olympics. For those that know me, know how much I HATE being even slightly cold. You will find me with a sweater always, keeping my home at a cozy temperature of 80. LOL So you know this is a cause I am totally behind. The money we make is going to our very own neighborhood kids! So great! If you can help in any way by either donations and/or praying no one gets sick after the plunge that would be awesome. Thanks for your support!
